One new contestant taking the stage on NBC’s The Voice is Xavier Trinity Cornell. He auditioned for their 21st season. The high school graduate turned 18 last month, and took a major chance going to LA to try out for the hit reality TV singing competition. Get to know more about him below with these five facts.

1) He got accepted into Manhattan’s School of Music. He wrote on Instagram: “Super excited to announce that I’m gonna be attending Manhattan School of Music in the fall! The decision process has been insane but I’m grateful for every moment! Go Polar Bears!! #msmbound.”
2) Pursuing his musical aspirations on The Voice was a huge step. On August 20, he teased that he “sang for some pretty cool people this summer…” As you know, there are 4 coaches that could potentially select Xavier for their team: Ariana Grande, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Blake Shelton.
3) When he’s not singing or playing guitar, he’s usually hanging out with friends or exploring the outdoors.

5) His first Instagram video features him singing an original tune. It’s got a bit of a Jason Mraz/John Mayer vibe to it. He could definitely be a pop sensation with a bit of a soulful accent.
