American Idol airs its last round of auditions this week. One new contestant who will take the stage is Vahhley Hernandez. We’ve got five facts on the American Idol hopeful for you below. So, keep reading to learn more about her.

Did Vahhley make it through to the next around of American Idol on ABC?
Update: Vahhley made it through to the next round of American Idol and received a golden ticket from Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie. She will be seen in the Hollywood Week episodes starting on March 21st on ABC. Since the airing of her audition, she has also been on the local news, News 12. You can see a video of that below.
1) Though she goes by Vahhley, her full name is Valerie Hernandez.
2) According to ABC7, Vahhley was encouraged to audition for the show by a fundraising director. She had performed at a local fundraiser in NYC and had so much potential that she was told to try out. She didn’t know at first if she could do it, but she went out on a limb and tried anyway. Looks like it paid off, because she’ll be in front of the judges this week!
3) Vahhley has a young son from her previous marriage. Unfortunately, her marriage broke apart which left she and her son homeless for a while. They stayed at a shelter for 8 months. She didn’t let her circumstances dictate her outcome though; she stayed strong.
4) The song she performed for her audition was “One Moment in Time.” The famous Whitney Houston song shows off her range beautifully. If you asked her to categorize her sound, it would be R&B.
5) In addition to singing, Valerie’s also a model in New York City.
