1. Shourav’s sister Shobha is also a spelling master.

2. He says he tries to copy his sister with her calm demeanor up at the podium during spelling bees, so it can remove outside distractions.

3. Shourav loves to wear the color red at spelling bees and he thinks it helps him win.

4. Shourav and his family live in Spring, Texas like his fellow contestant, Akash Vukoti.

5. Shourav is currently 17 years old in 2020.

6. His favorite sport is tennis and he has been playing the sport since 2nd grade!

7. The person he would most like to meet is James Harden who plays for the Houston Rockets basketball team.

8. According to the NYTimes, Shourav and his sister Shobha heard about the Scripps National Spelling Bee being canceled due to COVID in 2020 so they chose to create their own national spelling bee, taking place all online.
