Meet Steven Paul Cortez from American Idol

American Idol airs its last round of auditions this week. One new contestant who will take the stage is Steven Paul Cortez. We’ve got five facts on the American Idol hopeful for you below. So, keep reading to learn more about Steven.

Get to know Steven Paul Cortez

1) Steven Paul Cortez is his full name, but his Instagram handle is “scuba Steve” (@scuubbasteve). Not sure if it’s an homage to the Big Daddy movie character, or if he just likes the underwater activity, but it definitely makes him stand out. When it comes to his music though, he goes by Steven Paul.

Bonus fact: Steven’s got a very unique look too. His signature hair is a semi-slick, jet black style. He usually rocks a cowboy hat, jeans, and a colorful jacket. One of his favorites is a bright blue Dodgers jacket. You can see it in the photo below.

2) He’s currently in Los Angeles. The band he’s in, Big Wheel, is also based out of LA. They are a country/honky-tonk/rock n’ roll group consisting of 5 members. It appears that Steven fronts the band, doing lead vocals.

3) Currently, Steven’s latest single is “Make You Love Me.” It’s available on all platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc). It’s an original track, and he recorded a stripped down music video. You can watch it on his YouTube channel.

4) Obviously, he’s no stranger to performing. Whether it’s in his band, or as a solo act, Steven’s used to singing in front of others. That stage presence will serve him well when it comes to facing the judges on Idol.

5) He often signs his social media posts with “dalé ciao.” Ciao usually means “bye” in Italian, whereas “dalé” is loosely translated to “go ahead/go for it.” Sounds like Steven wants everyone to go out and follow their dreams like he is.
