5 Facts About Soupergirl from Shark Tank
Who are the Founders?
1) Soupergirl was founded by the mother-daughter team of Marilyn and Sarah Polon. Their goal is to deliver healthful, plant-based soups in small batches to people everywhere. They pitched their product on season 10 of Shark Tank. They asked for $500,000 in exchange for 10% on their episode.
2) Even though none of the sharks took a bite out of their deal, Marilyn and Sarah didn’t give up. And, their persistence paid off! Turns out, guest shark Matt Higgins contacted the duo about making something happen. He came on to the team as an advisor and had numerous connections they could utilize. Win-win!
3) After raising $2 million in funding in 2020, the company continued to expand its reach. At the time of Shark Tank, they were in Whole Foods and Costco locations. But, fast forward a couple years, and deals with Kroger and Wegmans took off.
4) Soupergirl launched its new website this year, where you can get their soup delivered right to your door if you live on the East Coast. And they don’t just offer soups. They offer gazpacho, soup toppers, veggie or grain bowls, and even desserts. Seasonal options are also available.
Did They Strike a Deal?
No. Surprisingly, the mother daughter duo never struck a deal with a shark on Shark Tank. Even though their sales kept increasing year over year, none of the sharks were committed to joining Supergirl.
What is Soupergirl Worth?
5) Their estimated net worth is $21 million. Feeling the Vibe reported on that earlier this summer, noting that Marilyn and Sarah’s business even received fair food certification. They are the first consumer packaged goods firm to obtain this for their tomato gazpacho line. As of 2022, their annual revenue is $9 million.
It’s Only Up from Here
They keep growing! In 2022, their soups started selling in Kroger and Harris Teeter stores. In a big move by the company, they invested in redoing their entire website. This redesign allows the company to now ship soup to anywhere in the US.
You can watch episodes of Shark Tank on demand or on Hulu. Season 14 of Shark Tank premieres on September 23 at 8 PM ET/PT on ABC.
