1) The Shed Defender was founded with the mission “to help dogs and their owners coexist safely and comfortably while promoting a clean and healthy lifestyle,” according to their official website. Their product is the first onesie for dogs, and has been designed to not only contain their shedding fur, but to keep them calmer and more at ease in certain situations, like during a thunderstorm.
2) The innovative pet company was founded in 2016 by Tyson Walters. The idea came about after he became a dog owner to Harley, a St. Bernard. She was a sweetheart, but, she also shed a lot. That problem prompted Tyson to come up with a solution that would help to give Harley the best life possible. Enter: Shed Defender.
3) Shed Defender’s social media presence is very strategic, but it’s also very relatable, which makes it easy to understand why they have so many fans and followers alike. Their Facebook page has over 20,000 fans; Twitter has a few hundred followers; their Instagram is probably their most active platform, with over 16,000 followers. They regularly update all of their social media pages, respond to posts or comments, and keep up their content to engage followers.
After the founders of Shed Defender pitched in the Shark Tank, they received multiple offers. Kevin O’Leary offered $250,000 for 33%. Robert Herjavec matched Kevin’s offer. Lori quickly jumped in and upped the offer to $250,000 for 28%. After some negotiating with the founders, they agreed to $250,000 for 25%.
4) So, where is Shed Defender now? Well, after striking it big with Lori Grenier, aka: “The Queen of QVC,” their sales skyrocketed, so much so that they have since expanded their line to include a “Shed Defender: Sport” and “Winter Fleece.” Since 2018, their sales have hit well over 700,000/month, and Chewy.com is now selling their product(s). Lori’s still invested in their company, and we can’t blame her with those numbers!
Shed Defender reportedly makes $1 million in revenue annually.
5) Shed Defender has a “Paw it Forward” program, which donates a portion of their sales to a different shelter, rescue center, or adoption organization every month.
They have gotten some great praise from customers, earning a 3.6/5 stars on Amazon. One user, Happy Homesteader said that the Shed Defender is “the perfect answer;” while Darby Hill wrote that it’s “the best body suit ever.” Very nice work, Tyson! We can see why Lori was excited to partner with you.
When A list actor, Ben Affleck was in a relationship with Ana de Armas, he was seen out walking the pairs pups with a product from the Shed Defender line. They were using the bungee leash. You can purchase one on Amazon now.
