Let’s Get to Know Candace Nelson – Guest Shark on Shark Tank!

1. According to her official LinkedIn profile, Candace wears many hats. She is an angel investor, TV personality, executive producer and author. Candace may have begun her career in investment banking and launching start-ups online before she completely shifted paths. When she lost her job in banking, this took Candace on a journey towards her passion.

2. She followed her dreams and passions of going back to pastry school! This helped her launch Sprinkles Cupcakes in 2005. She describes it as, “The world’s first cupcake bakery and cupcake ATM.” You can visit Sprinkles Cupcakes online here.

There were many questions surrounding whether or not he would return to the next season of Shark Tank. He was actually seen saying he might “pull back from other projects like Shark Tank.” When people reacted surprisingly Cuban said, “Part of me wants to quit,” Cuban said to Forbes. “They’ll survive fine without me.”

Cuban has been putting his time into other projects one of which includes a new “Cost Plus Drugs” company which would be a discount pharmacy where they would directly negotiate with drug manufacturers. This is something that has not been done before.

So you’re probably curious what happened. It looks like Cuban’s projects are moving along nicely where he doesn’t need to pull back. The official photo shows him as the group of Sharks for Shark Tank season 15.

You can see Mark Cuban standing in between Kevin O’Leary and Barbara Corcoran in a blue buttoned down shirt and black pants. It looks like Barbara and Lori are front and center. Will the lady sharks have a more prominent role?

No surprises so far. The usual sharks are in the group, Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Lori Greiner, and Robert Herjavec.

Who is the Founder?

The founder of Kettle Gryp is Michael Schaeffer. Michael is a fitness enthusiast and personal trainer who developed the concept for Kettle Gryp after noticing a gap in the market for a portable and versatile kettlebell solution. He appeared on Shark Tank in 2017 to pitch his product and secure funding to bring it to market. The Sharks were impressed with his concept, and he ultimately secured an investment from Robert Herjavec. They are from Potomac, Maryland. Dr. Sina Farzin and his wife, Nina ask for $400k for 5% for their baby product, Oogie Bear (buy it on Amazon.)

Barbara wanted to know why Nina left her job. She said she had too many ideas and was challenged by her husband to try it.

They have sold 1 million units to date since 2015. Total revenue in sales is $15 million. Profit track to make $1 million in 2022. Revenue track is to make $5.4 million.

Kevin O’Leary offers $400k for 10%

Lori Greiner wants to know if there is competition. Nina said there wasn’t anything on the market, but they have a patent on their product.

Daymond John said he’s impressed. He says its not in his area of expertise so he’s out.

Mark Cuban wants to know how much they do on Amazon. She says 76% and she wants to diverse their online presence.

Our comments on company #3 – Pizza Pack – Here for the Dough

Here for the Dough, Pizza Pack is run by an entrepreneur who had been in Shark Tank previously with his Cheese Chopper. He’s back with his pizza keeper product which is patent pending.

Robert said, “this is a one product company, I’m out.”

Kevin O’Leary offers $100K for 10% and includes a royalty of $2 per unit until he gets the $100K back then $0.50 per unit into perpetuity.

Mark Cuban wanted to know why he isn’t selling more. They said it’s because of inventory.

Lori Greiner offers $100K for 20%.

Mark Cuban said he hates investing in companies run by inventors but he loves to buy companies by inventors. He asks the owner, Tate to come back to him with a figure for full purchase of the company after the commercial break.

Tate says, $5 million. The sharks laugh. Mark Cuban says that was insane. He says he likes the product.

Lori Greiner said she wants to changer her offer. Then Daymond John said, $100K for 25%.

Lori says, “I can tell instantly whether something is a hero or a zero, this is a hero.” Offers $100K for 15%. Daymond John said he will go to 20%.

Tate asks Lori for 12.5% then she goes, 13% and you have a deal.

Tate wants to know if he can hear from Mark Cuban.

Mark Cuban said he will buy the company for $1.5 million and he will write the check.

The crowd is shouting for Lori. He chooses Lori Greiner.

What is Slice of Sauce?

1) Cole and Emily Williams are the husband-and-wife founders of Slice of Sauce. Their “eureka” moment came when they were determined to use leftover veggies to make their usual BBQ sauce. From there, the idea grew into a product, and in turn, a business.

2) Slice of Sauce is literally what it sounds like: condiments in sliced form! It’s free of any allergens, so that means no eggs, wheat, dairy, fish, soy, tree nuts or peanuts. Real ingredients like tomato and sriracha are used to give their packets bold flavor.

3) Currently, it comes in the Classic Ketchup and Spicy Sriracha. You can use it on burgers, wraps, sandwiches, anything really! Breakfast sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, and grilled cheese is also recommended. It’s perfect for on-the-go use, like road trips because it’s portable.

4) If you look on their social media, then you may notice they began posting circa 2017. Well, since then, they’ve rebranded themselves – or at least, redesigned the package. Check out a comparison of the old look vs. the current one below.

Did They Go Out of Business?

5) Emily and Cole seemed determined to get their products going! However, it appears that the deal with Alex Rodriguez never closed. As of 2022, there is no way to order Slice of Sauce anywhere, not even on their website. They are either at a stand still or they are going out of business.

According to Cole’s LinkedIn profile, he still lists Slice of Sauce as his current full time position since 2018. The same is true for Emily Williams as well. Her LinkedIn profile still lists this as her full time position.

How Much Did They Ask For?

They came into the tank seeking $300,000 for 10% stake in their business, FlingGolf. They sell directly to the consumers as well as to golf courses all over the country. The product is created for $25 – $35 and the retail price is between $119 – $179.

Did They Get a Deal?

Yes. 2 out of the 5 sharks made them an offer. Lori, Mark and Kevin all went out. Robert Herjavec and guest shark, Daniel Lubetzky saw the value in this.

Daniel is confident that he can introduce them to pro golfers and courses around America. He offers $300,000 for 33.3%. Robert jumps in and matches Daniel’s offer. After some hesitation, John and Alex counter at 20%. Daniel gives a final offer of $300,000 for 25% with only a few seconds to decide. They shake and make a deal.

Did the Deal Close?

No. After they were done filming the episode, the deal with Daniel Lubetzky never actually closed. Therefore, they were on their own again.

Where Are They Now? + Net Worth

FlingGolf blew up! It was proven that they didn’t really need the deal after all. The publicity of just being on Shark Tank was enough to have sales pouring in. They sold the same amount of product they would in a month, in 2 days after Shark Tank aired. Courses all over are calling on the guys to get FlingGolf offered there. Sales are projected to reach over $1 million in 2022.

In the summer of 2022, FlingGolf is offered at over 15k courses and more than 34k worldwide.

Are the Reviews Good?

People all over the world are discovering the new way to play golf.

One golfer, Sonny discovered it while he was on his honeymoon in Virginia. He and his new wife started playing and enjoyed it so much that Sonny prefers playing it this way over the traditional method. He even dedicated a YouTube channel to his new favorite sport.

It can be fun for the entire family. This dad of 2 was searching around for new sports to enjoy with his children when he came across FlingGolf. He confessed that none of them had ever been on a golf course before. Now, one year later they couldn’t imagine not playing it as it has become such a big part of their lives now.

These two friends from SoCal fell in love with the sport. They were used to playing the beautiful courses in Southern California. When they saw an advertisement for FlingGolf as a way to play with only one club, they were skeptical. After trying it, they couldn’t stop. Now they are playing with their friends and girlfriends.

Founder of FlingGolf, Alex Van Alen is going strong with his business. He is from Amesbury, Massachusetts and according to his LinkedIn profile, he has been the founder/CEO since April 2012. On his page, he points out that the flingstick is indeed patented. Earlier in his career, he worked as a conservation real estate consultant and an executive director of Essex County Trail Association for 3 years before starting his newest business.

His partner John Pruellage does not appear to have a LinkedIn profile. However, according to their official website we learn that John has 20 years of leadership experience with startups in the television advertising technology sector.

John always had a passion for being out on the golf course and discover golf hacks. When FlingGolf was introduced to him, it sparked his love of the game all over again. When he isn’t on the golf course, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and rescue pups.
