Petnostics Update from Shark Tank

  • by

If you have a pet, chances are you’ve been to a vet a few or many times. Well, Stephen Chen of Petnostics wanted to change that – saving money and diagnosing pets earlier – with his product. When he appeared on Shark Tank, his pitch wowed the judges, so much so that he got a deal with two of the sharks. Find out what happened post-show below with our update.

5 Facts About Petnostics

1) Stephen started the business in 2013, according to Shark Tank Blog. He began designed the product because he wanted to get a better handle on his dog’s health issues before they became something more serious.

2) There’s a patented cup which holds the pet’s urine sample. The app on your phone interacts with the sample strip on the lid, and can tell you all sorts of data on your animal. Some sharks were weary about the idea of pet parents collecting samples from their animals, but Chen reassured them that it’s the least painful part of the process. The payoff is possible early detection, and potentially saving the animal’s life, which everyone would be happy about.

3) Despite being skeptical at first about proof of concept, surprisingly, Mr. Wonderful aka: Kevin O’Leary offered up an option. Stephen came in wanting $300,000 for 10%; Kevin offered the $300,000 for 15%. Later, Lori Greiner offers the money for 20%. Then, Kevin jumped on Lori’s deal, and together they went in on the 20%, which Stephen accepted.

4) Things are still going great post-Shark Tank for Stephen’s business. In addition to their testing strips and cups, they’ve added litters for cat owners, which help them to collect samples from their cats. Available online are also: diabetic, UTI, and bladder stone test strips.

5) Aside from selling online and on Amazon, they partnered up with stories like Petco. They have developed apps for Android and other platforms too. Their newest product that’s launching soon is a PetsHealth Vet Kit.

Shark Tank season 13 premieres October 8 at 8 PM on ABC. Catch up on Hulu or on demand.
