Monica Aksamit is one of the 18 women competing on Joe Millionaire. She’s a 31-year-old athlete from New York, and one to watch on the Fox reboot. Get to know more about her below, including her career, schooling, etc.
1) She’s an Olympic medalist! Competing in 2016, she helped the U.S. Women’s Saber Team win its second bronze medal in history.
Prior to her Olympic win, Aksamit won team silver at the 2008 Junior World Championships at 18 years old. She’s been fencing since age 9, according to USA Fencing.
Her height is certainly a defining characteristic. She’s 6’0″!
2) From 2008-2012, she attended Pennsylvania State University, majoring in kinesiology. Biology was another area of study she liked a lot.
3) Currently, Monica hosts the podcast On the Fence. Some of her famous athlete friends including Danell J Leyva and Paul George have been guests on the podcast. 4) Apparently, Monica had a back injury that sidelined her after the Olympics. She told the Olympic Channel Podcast that she “was actually told about it before Rio. The doctor also tried to downplay it [saying] ‘This no big deal. [There’s] a little like chip in your vertebrae. It’s fine.’” She had to wear a back brace and ended up taking 3 and a half months off post-Rio.
But, a back injury wasn’t the only thing giving her trouble. Money was tight, but thankfully she was able to utilize Instagram to help her secure deals. Funding from grants also helped so she could continue to compete.
She’s verified on Instagram with 101K followers; TikTok with 206K+ followers. Did we mention she’s also a Ford Model?
5) One quality she prides herself on is her stubbornness, which translates into her ability to never give up. She told the podcast “I definitely don’t give up. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my stubbornness.”
