American Idol continues its audition process this week. One new contestant who will take the stage is Mary Jo Young. We’ve got five facts about the American Idol hopeful below. So, keep reading to learn more about Mary Jo.

Update on 3/21/21: Mary Jo who is a real estate associate and is 19 years old said she was so happy that she actually got to perform on a stage after her Hollywood Week solo. Mary Jo made it to the next round of Hollywood Duets Week.
Did Mary Jo Young Get a Golden Ticket?
Update: Yes! Mary Jo Young received a golden ticket and continues on to the Hollywood week for American Idol. So what has she been up to since the airing of her audition? She told us about a special friend she met who is also a contestant on American Idol. Her name is Natalie O’Delli and she encourages her fans to check Natalie out. Here are the girls.
Mary Jo Young also had her hair changed. She had extensions added and a Brazilian blowout. You can see her new style below.
1) Mary Jo is from Cleveland, Ohio. She studies at Cleveland State University, but is taking time away to pursue music.
2) She’s 19 and considers herself “a shy singer.” Singing for the judges was the first time she’d performed in front of people! She had never performed in front of her mother either until the audition.
3) She first began posting TikToks last spring when the pandemic shut things down. She gained traction on that platform, which convinced her to audition for Idol.
4) Her original audition song was “You Broke Me First” by Tate McRae. She then sang a bit of Lewis Capaldi’s “Bruises” in front of her mom, Elizabeth. How sweet is that? She released a full cover of the former track to her YouTube channel. Listen below:
