On season 21 of American Idol, there will be an interesting trio of contestants auditioning this year. They are part of the namesake storyline the show will be featuring, where, you guessed it, they have names very similar to the judges. One contestant is Katey Parry – yes, her name is quite similar to that of famous singer and Idol judge Katy Perry. But, this Katey stands out and on her own. Who is Katey Parry from American Idol Season 21?
1) Her name really is Katey Parry. Unsurprising is the fact that she had to put an underscore in between her first and last name for her Instagram handle (@katey_parry) because a fan account for Katy Perry used @kateyparry. While she posts sparingly, she does post about art, friends and travels.
2) She participated in the oldest and largest theater festival in the nation, the annual Illinois High School Theater Festival (IHSTF) in 2019. In 2023, she will graduate from the Chicago College of Performing Arts with a degree in musical theater.
3) She sings and plays the guitar. Her music is influenced by a bit of jazz, which meshes well with her soulful voice. Watch her rendition of a Christmas classic below:
4) In her spare time, Katey enjoys reading biographies and memoirs, especially by/about musicians. Sara Bareilles and Elton John’s books are part of her collection, which you can see in this Instagram carousel below. According to her caption, she also read Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights in 2022.
5) While she hasn’t posted much about her Idol audition, you can see her singing in the same pink pantsuit she wore for her audition in the second slide of this Instagram post below. A photo from her audition is posted below as well for reference. Plus, she hints at the audition with her caption: “okay maybe luke was right about the suit.”
