What began as a parent’s journey to create a snack their son could eat turned into a full blown business. Known as Jackson’s Honest Potato Chips, the healthful alternative snack food was pitched on Shark Tank in 2017. So, what happened after the show? Keep reading to find out with our five facts below.
An Update on Jackson’s Honest Potato Chips
1) Scott and Megan Reamer founded the company. They were on a mission to find healthy snacks their son Jackson could eat. He had an auto-immune disease, which needed an anti-inflammatory diet. But, they struck out while shopping in stores for good snacks. So, they decided to make their own.
2) Replacing traditional fats with coconut oil is the key. Their chips are all-natural, and cooked with that oil. Scott and Megan founded the business in 2012, and only five years later, were on Shark Tank. Sadly, just after filming their appearance, their son Jackson passed away from complications with his disease. The Reamers decided to keep the business going in his memory.
3) Since their 2012 launch, they’d done millions of dollars in sales. In 2016, they reached 10 million, according to CNBC. This was impressive to the sharks, and they ended up getting a deal. Megan and Scott made a deal with guest shark Rohan Oza for 15% of their company. This put the valuation at over $8 million.
4) Currently, there are 3 kinds of chips being sold. Their newest one is a Japanese Heirloom chip. The other two flavors are: original Sweet Potato, and Purple Heirloom. In addition to being sold online, they’ve made it into major grocery retailers like Whole Foods.
5) Their social media game is very strong. They have 25,000 followers on Instagram, and actively post on a regular basis. You can follow them @jacksonshonest.
