Many people have their cell phones attached at their hips, but what do they do when they actually need to set it down? What if you have information on there, but need your hands free? Those were the kinds of questions one young inventor wanted to answer with his creation of Flipstik, the cell phone stand accessory. Keep reading below to learn more before its Shark Tank debut.
Details on FlipStik
1) FlipStik was designed by Akeem Shannon. Through his uncle, a NASA employee, Akeem learned about an adhesive researched in the 70’s. When he thought about the issues he’d had with where to properly place his cell phone, Akeem combined these ideas to invent Flipstik.
2) It’s a kickstand that attaches to a cell phone cover. The user can stand the phone up, or attach it to flat surfaces. It’s durable, washable, and user-friendly.
3) Akeem taught himself how to trademark and patent a product. In 2018, he launched a KickStarter fund and raised 10x his goal! His product won 1st place at Tech Stars’ CES Retail Pitch competition. Akeem also participated in the REVOLT Rap Competition, where he sang a verse about his product.
4) There are a variety of colors, patterns, and designs. From zodiac signs to sports themes, there’s something for everyone.
5) Akeem is seeking $100,000 for a 20% stake in his company. That values at about half a million, or $500,000.
