Dr. Krystal Cascetta, a renowned cancer doctor from Mount Sinai tragically died in a murder-suicide this weekend in Westchester. She shot her 4 month old baby girl before turning the gun on herself.
1. Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, was a Hematology-Oncology specialist with Mount Sinai in Queens, New York. Her co-worker called her “whip smart.” Krystal was an Assistant Professor of Medicine since July 2015 as well as the Site Chief at the Mount Sinai Queens Infusion Center in New York City since 2021. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree at St. John’s University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She then attended Albany Medical College where she earned her MD in 2009. Cascetta also received her Master’s Degree from Cornell University.
2. Krystal got married to her husband, Tim Talty, 37 in 2019. The couple married in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York in a gorgeous ceremony.
3. She may have worked in Queens, New York but she and her family lived in Westchester County, New York specifically in Somers, New York. They have a $1 million home in the wealthy suburb of NYC.
4. Her husband, Tim, runs the energy bar company The Talty Bar. Their slogan says “made by real food for real people.” It comes in a variety of flavors including chocolate coconut, peanut butter & jelly, dark chocolate espresso and apple strudel to name a few.
5. The couple had a baby girl, born in March 2023 and was allegedly the couple’s only child.
6. Neighbors of Tim and Krystal commented that the couple were very private – to the point that they didn’t know Krystal had even been pregnant. Another neighbor told the NY Post, “They came over and introduced themselves when they moved in about two years ago, and then we never heard from them again,” she said. “We didn’t even know she was pregnant.”
7. Another neighbor commented on their impression of Krystal and Tim. They said, “They’re very nice people, very pleasant, and they moved in about two years ago, and I’ve seen them maybe twice since then,” he said of Dr. Cascetta and her husband.”
8. Krystal’s colleagues took to Reddit to describe what Krystal was like. A woman named Kate said, “She was a fellow at sinai when I was a resident and was an amazing teacher and such a compassionate person. I am so devastated to hear this.”

9. Spectators online have been trying to figure out what happened in this tragic story. One refers to the possibility of Krystal suffering from post partum depression. Another questioned if her job caused burnout and depression.
