American Idol continues its auditions on ABC this week. Cameron McGhar is one of the new contestants who will take the stage in front of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. We compiled five facts on the American Idol hopeful for you below. So, keep reading to learn more about Cameron.
Update 3/21/21: Looks like Cameron McGhar is not only spicing it up on the stage, but actually off the stage. She and fellow contestant, Alex Miller might have a little romance going.
When was Cameron McGhar born?
Cameron is currently 17 years old which means she was born in 2003 or 2004.
She is a small town girl. In an article from abc3340.com she said, “Everybody knows each other, you’re driving by down the street and you can tell whose car that is and who’s in it,” says Cameron McGhar, an American Idol contestant.
1) Auditioning for American Idol has been a dream of Cameron’s. She and her grandma would do mock auditions. Cameron would be the singer, her grandma the judge. She captioned the photo,
“My 2020… A year full of growth, new experiences, and opportunities that have been so surreal. A year where God has truly let my plate overflow with the most amazing people and humbling moments. Going into a new year I figured there was no better time then to share what has been one of my biggest blessings…
I did something crazy.. I auditioned for AMERICAN IDOL!! Tune into @abcnetwork starting Sunday February 14th to see how my audition for @americanidol went!🎤”
Bonus! She was originally supposed to be on American Idol February 14th but her air date got switched to March 7th.
2) She passed the first Zoom audition. Next, Cameron was invited to San Diego to audition in front of the judges. When she found out she made it through, she was so excited. She was especially excited to audition for Luke Bryan.
3) She chose to sing “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town for the tryout. Cameron thought it best suited her tone of voice. Apparently the plane ride to San Diego was her first!
4) She was named 2018’s Miss Chilton. The Facebook page congratulated her on Idol.

“I’m like I’m about to audition for 3 celebrities that I’ve looked up to all of my life….. Especially Luke Bryan who I have a crush on…. I’m pretty sure he knows that now,” she says giggling. (abc3340.com)
She is an 11th grader at Chilton County High School in Clanton, Alabama. She grew up listening to music with her grandmother.
5) Cameron is from Clanton, Alabama and is a Christian. Her IG bio has the quote: “Walk by faith & live fearlessly.”
