Meet Ash Ruder from American Idol

American Idol auditions continue this week. One new contestant who will take the stage is Ash Ruder. We’ve got five facts on the American Idol hopeful below. So, keep reading to learn more about her.

Ashlyn or “Ash” as her friends call her is a Christian girl and labels herself a “child of God.” She also says she enjoys storytelling through music. She plays at least two instruments the guitar and the piano. You can see multiple videos of her playing both the piano and guitar, especially in her saved Instastories.

1) She’s married to Dylan Ruder. They’ve been together for 4 years. It was actually her husband who saw the casting call for Idol and told her about it!

2) Her first name is Ashlyn, but she goes by Ash. Her music is indie-folk meets country. She certainly is a bit reminiscent of Taylor Swift.

3) Speaking of which, Ash wrote an original song called “Mine.” She posted it to her IGTV in January, and it’s already got close to 2,000 views! Check it out below:

4) She has a younger sister named Emma. Emma is 15, and Ash is 22. They’re both blondes, and they do look a lot alike!

5) She was born and raised in Turlock, California. She’s currently attending Azusa Pacific University in LA. She’s working towards a degree in both music and business.
