American Idol continues on with auditions this week. One new face you’ll see on stage is Alyssa Wray. We’ve got five facts on the American Idol hopeful below. So, keep reading to learn more about Alyssa.
Update on 4/18/21: Alyssa sang “This Is Me” on Oscar Night of American Idol. Alyssa made it to the Top 9 of American Idol!
Update on 4/12/21:
Alyssa was voted in by America and moved on to the Top 12 of American Idol. She sang a Whitney Houston hit, “Greatest Love of All.”

Update on 3/28/21: Alyssa was the first singer on the “Showstoppers: Final Auditions” of American Idol. Her song was about her journey, “I’m Here” from The Color Purple.” Her voice filled the hall and gave people goosebumps! At one point on one of her long notes, you see Lionel Richie say, “Boom!” She received standing ovations from Katy and Luke. Katy said, “that was too much in vocal gymnastics” and thinks Alyssa is psyching herself out. In the final judgement this is what was said.
Luke Bryan asked her how she’s doing. He said, “your audition, it was very very amazing, there is a fine line with you controlling this powerhouse voice and blending it from top to bottom.”
Katy said, “I can overcompensate, some people overcompensate and some undercompensate, but you can’t throw 52 cards in our faces.”
Alyssa is the first of the show to move into the top 24!
Update on 3/21/21: Alyssa wasn’t shown in the Hollywood Solo week performances episode but she did move on to the Hollywood Duets Week round.
1) Alyssa Wray is a freshman at Northern Kentucky University. She is majoring in musical theater.
2) She’s from Perryville, Kentucky. Her community is super supportive of her Idol journey.
3) Locals have already seen Alyssa perform. In 2019, Alyssa sang at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Gospel Music Showcase. That took place at the Kentucky State Fair, and you can even see a video below:
What types of movies does Alyssa Wray like?
Alyssa is a romantic comedy fan as can be seen in her Instagram bio.
Is Alyssa Wray a Christian?
Yes she is. She also says “love like Jesus” in her Instagram bio.
Alyssa took her first trip to California for her audition for American Idol. She posted a number of photos in the scenery of palm trees and sunny skies. In one caption she wrote “sorry if I post a lot, I’ve never been to Cali🙈” Her trip took place in November 2020.
Where does Alyssa Wray Go to School?
Alyssa goes to school at the NKU School of Arts which is part of the Northern Kentucky University.
4) This is not her first time trying out for American Idol. Alyssa auditioned first when she was a sophomore in high school. She didn’t make it past the first round then, but now, she’s determined. Besides, she caught the eye of Idol producers in her Zoom tryout. So, she must be doing something right!
5) She has a decent TikTok following. Right now, her account has 67,000 followers.
