5 Facts About Tony Xu, DoorDash CEO and Guest Shark
1) Tony Xu was born in Nanjing, China and came to the USA with his parents at age 5. His mother was a doctor in China, and his father was working towards a degree in aeronautical engineering and applied math, according to CNBC. Meanwhile, Tony went on to attend UC Berkley for engineering and Stanford for business.
2) Tony is not his first name. Originally born Xu Xun, he decided to change his name to better fit in with his new classmates. So, he adopted the name Tony after his favorite American TV show character, Tony from Who’s the Boss.
3) In 2012, Tony and his three business classmates Stanley Tang, Andy Fang and Evan Moore started the food delivery service app Palo Alto Delivery, even making the deliveries themselves. A year later, after receiving seed money, they changed the name to DoorDash and began hiring delivery drivers called “Dashers.”
By 2014, DoorDash received almost $20 million in funding and delivered food of over 1,000 restaurants in California. Then, they expanded across the country. Now, Xu is running the most popular food delivery service: DoorDash has over 1 million drivers and 18 million customers.

4) 2022 saw DoorDash’s earnings total $6 billion and so it makes sense that Forbes reported Tony’s net worth to be $1.3 billion.
5) Tony married wife Patti Bao in 2013. They have two children together.
