Snag a Stool Update from Shark Tank

  • by

Snag a Stool was the bar-specific reservation application presented on Shark Tank during season 6. The app was invented by Jamie Manning and Dean Whitney. It aims to do the obvious, yet impossible: get a seat at the bar. The duo walked away without a deal, but they didn’t stop working. So, what happened with the business? Find out below.

Snag a Stool Update

1) Jamie and Dean traveled from Boston, Massachusetts to be on Shark Tank in season 6. They sought $120,000 in exchange for 18%. While Kevin O’Leary’s from Boston himself, and understood their mission, he didn’t bite at their pitch. Unfortunately, none of the other sharks offered anything up either.

2) Even though they didn’t get a deal on Shark Tank, they didn’t let it deter them. Jamie and Dean managed to get partnerships with other apps like Lyft. But, it wasn’t enough to sustain the venture. The company ended up closing in 2016, according to BostInno.

3) Apparently, Jamie’s next move in the product game is BaggaBox, a theft prevention bag for packages. The idea came to him after he was watching Black Friday stories on the news and saw how many packages were getting swiped.

4) While the website for Snag a Stool is no longer available, the Instagram page is still up. It’s not currently being utilized; the last post was in February 2018. The last IG post on Jamie’s newer project, BaggaBox, was also in 2018.

5) The idea had promise, but, not a lot of support from a consumer standpoint. People didn’t really understand the need to “reserve” seats at a bar. When that point was made on Shark Tank, the guys had a decent response. “During the off-peak times, this is when bars will offer an incentive, such as a free beer or free appetizer in order to attract people to their bar to fill those stools.” According to Gazette Review, the sharks then understood that the advantage is customer attraction when the bar’s not at its busiest.
