At the end of the genres week show, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan told those contestants who were moving on to the next round that they were about to shake up the show.
Normally, when the duets round came about, contestants would be allowed to choose their own duet partners. However, with this version of American Idol, there is a new game plan in town.
The judges told everyone that instead of choosing their own partners, they would be pairing everyone up.
The contestants looked pretty surprised at this new announcement.
Country singer Alex Miller took the news in stride even after he had to be torn apart from his budding romance with contestant Cameron McGhar.
Little backstory on the romance:
Alex Miller, a country singer from the south was quickly attracted to 16 year old Cameron McGhar. She saw a belt he was wearing which was customized with his name and she commented on it during the original auditions. During Hollywood week genre competition, Alex went over to Cameron and presented her with her own belt buckle with Cameron’s name on it.
When asked why he did that by the show, Alex proclaimed, “because I like her!”
Cameron McGhar was so excited by the gift and was visibly happy.
Unfortunately, the romance may not happen as Cameron was eliminated after the genre challenge while Alex moved on.
Following the new announcement in regards to the duets, Alex said, “Who’s the lucky soul to duet with me?” We like his confidence!
